Yolanda Pupo-Ortiz was the first Hispanic/Latina woman received in full connection (1983) into the former Southern New England Conference of the United Methodist Church. Pupo-Ortiz was raised in Cuba in a Quaker family. She converted to Methodism upon her marriage, and is known for her distinctive and prophetic contribution to Hispanic preaching.
