Hymnal: Hymns, Selected and Original #650 (1828) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: At Parting; Meeting and parting of Christian friends Lyrics: 1 Lord, when together here we meet, And taste thy heav'nly grace; Thy smiles are so divinely sweet, We're loath to leave the place. 2 But, Father, since it is thy will, That we must part again; Oh, may thy special presence still With ev'ry one remain. 3 And let us all in Christ be one, Bound with the cords of love; Till we, before thy glorious throne, Shall joyful meet above. 4 All sin and sorrow from each heart, Shall then for ever fly; Nor shall a thought that we must part, Once interrupt our joy.

A Welcome to Christian Friends—At Meeting

Author: Newton Hymnal: A Selection of Hymns #DXIV (1792) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Times and Seasons Meeting and Parting; Meeting and parting of friends First Line: Kindred in Christ, for his dear sake Lyrics: 1 Kindred in Christ, for his dear sake, A hearty welcome here receive; May we together now partake The Joys which only he can give. 2 To you and us my grace 'tis given, To know the Saviour's precious name; And shortly we shall meet in Heaven, Our hope, our way, our end, the same. 3 May he, by whose kind care we meet, Send his good spirit from above, Make our communications sweet, And cause our hearts to burn with love! 4 Forgotten be each worldly theme, When christians see each other thus; We only wish to speak of him, Who liv'd and dy'd and reigns for us. 5 We'll talk of all he did and said, And suffer'd for us here below; The path he mark'd for us to tread, And what he's doing for us now. 6 Thus, as the moments pass away, We'll love, and wonder and adore; And hasten on the glorious day When we shall meet to part no more. Once more to Bethany,

Author: James Montgomery Hymnal: Sacred Poems and Hymns #135 (1854) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Parting of Christian friends Lyrics: Once more to Bethany,--once more His little flock the Saviour led; And while their hearts and eyes ran o'er, These were the gracious words He said:-- "Go into all the world;--proclaim Pardon throughout the rebel-host; Baptize believers in the name Of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. "Power shall be given you from on high; The Father's promise I will send; But tarry, for the hour is nigh; Lo! I am with you to the end." Thus while He blesséd them, they saw A cloud that caught Him from their view; The heavens received Him;--dumb with awe, They gaz'd, they worshipp'd, and withdrew. Such was that parting;--here we meet In fellowship of Christian love, And sit as at our Master's feet, And hear Him speaking from above. Lord Jesus! so Thy servants teach, That when we from each other part, Our lips and lives to all may preach Thy gospel graven on our heart. Languages: English

How sweet the hour of closing day

Author: Bathurst Hymnal: The Voice of Praise #893 (1873) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: The Christian's Parting Hour Lyrics: 1 How sweet the hour of closing day, When all is peaceful and serene, And when the sun, with cloudless ray, Sheds mellow luster o'er the scene! 2 Such is the Christian's parting hour; So peacefully he sinks to rest; When faith, endued from heaven with power, Sustains and cheers his languid breast. 3 Mark but that radiance of his eye, That smile upon his wasted cheek: They tell us of his glory nigh, In language that no tongue can speak. 4 A beam from heaven is sent to cheer The pilgrim on his gloomy road; And angels are attending near, To bear him to their bright abode. 5 Who would not wish to die like those Whom God's own Spirit deigns to bless, To sink into that soft repose, Then wake to perfect happiness?

And let our bodies part

Hymnal: A Pocket hymn-book, designed as a constant companion for the pious #CCLXVIII (1790) Topics: Society Parting Lyrics: 1 And let our bodies part, To different climes repair! Inseparably join'd in heart The friends of Jesus are! 2 Jesus the corner-stone, Did first our hearts unite! And still he keeps our spirits one, Who walk with him in white. 3 O let us still proceed In Jesu's work below; And, following our triumphant Head, To farther conquests go. 4 The vineyard of the Lord Before his labourers lies; And lo! we see the vast reward, Which waits us in the skies! 5 O let our heart and mind Continually ascend, That haven of repose to find, Where all our labours end! 6 Where all our toils are o’er, Our suffering and our pain! Who meet on that eternal shore, Shall never part again. 7 O happy, happy place, Where saints and angels meet! There we shall see each other’s face, And all our brethren greet. 8 The church of the first-born, We shall with them be blest, And, crown'd with endless joy, return To our eternal rest. 9 With joy we shall behold, In yonder blest abode, The patriarchs and prophets old, And all the saints of God. 10 Abraham and Isaac there, and Jacob shall receive The followers of their faith and prayer, who now in bodies live. 11 We shall our time beneath Live out in cheerful hope, And fearless pass the vale of death, And gain the mountain-top. 12 To gather home his own God shall his angels send, And bid our bliss on earth begun In deathless triumphs end.
